Scary Fairy Tale

December is starting out as a super-cold and beautiful month here in Portland, Oregon. 

I'm very excited that I finished my manuscript for The Vampire Bridegroom, a book-length collection of queer horror poems and tales (some of the pieces are somewhere between a poem and piece of flash fiction), which focuses on vampires and other motifs of the horror genre.  The poems are influenced by folklore and horror movies as well as biographical pieces and surreal fantasies.  The manuscript is named after my poem that just appeared in the second issue of Icarus magazine (see the cover image in the right-hand column).  I sent off the manuscript to Dark Scribe Press yesterday, and I'm looking forward to getting Vince's feedback on the work. 

Speaking of Icarus magazine, last night I finished my second reading of Lee Thomas' story called "The Tattered Boy," which you can find in the second issue of Icarus.  It is an amazing, textured vampire tale with a fascinating narrator.  I am planning on writing more about it on the blog.

Also, I'm planning on writing a full-blown queer reading of My Best Friend is a Vampire, a cult classic movie from the 80's. 

I'm really looking forward to the Xmas break--I plan on doing a lot of writing and preparing for a fresh load of Composition classes in the new year.
